I’ve suddenly become mesmerized by Talking Points Memo’s The Day in 100 Seconds. Each day, they try to sum up the news of the day by editing TV clips down to 100 seconds. If you forget the content and simply watch the video, I find it entertaining, captivating and simply terrific.
My favorite one so far is January 29, 2009. I like the off hand news commentator’s comments, “Poppycock,” “Shut your pie hole.” But my favorite part without a doubt is Blagojevich’s impeachment testimony. I find it completely enthralling when they take a single speech and cut out the empty parts of it.
Do yourself a favor and watch January 29, 2009 in 100 Seconds. I’ve watched this day over and over again.

What do these films have in common?
- The Royal Tenenbaums
- Lost in Translation
- Pearl Harbor
- Miss Congeniality
- Napoleon Dynamite
They’re the most polarizing films that Netflix offers. You either love them or hate them. Is it wrong that I liked Miss Congeniality?
This discovery came about during a discussion about a contest to improve Netflix’s recommendation system. (Via & More)
Yep, Snoop Dogg on Martha Stewart and part 2. (Via) I’m an unabashed Martha fan and always will be.

Mary Poppins is the Exorcist with songs. Looking at movies differently.

The entire original black and white 1994 Bottle Rocket short is on YouTube … The video quality sucks (think security camera), but it’s highly entertaining.

Early web chatter described Charlie Bartlett as the new Ferris Bueller. Big shoes to fill, but not a completely accurate description. Charlie Bartlett is more Ferris Bueller meets Rushmore. Actually, it stands pretty well on its own. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and wish I hadn’t been so skeptical that I missed it in the theater. Now, I just need an excuse to watch it again.
Wes Anderson and Jason Schwartzman recommend CD’s and DVD’s at Borders. Via. I’m not really sure what to make of this video, but once I got over the initial annoyance of it, it was a little entertaining. (Be forewarned: it’s not that entertaining.) Too bad, Darjeeling Limited was horrible, horrible. Should have drawn more from Thomas the Tank Engine on that one, how can you screw up a movie about trains?

This is an easy review. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Still, it was mildly entertaining and met my expectations dead on. Does that make it something other than a complete loss?

I love to rent a movie based solely on the cover art. With no expectations, a good movie becomes a sweet surprise to be savored while the disappointments are quickly forgotten. In Bruges has a cover that caught my attention by contrasting a beautiful, bright town with dark men carrying guns. I was hooked by the time I read the tagline, “Shoot first. Sightsee later.” This movie was fun, entertaining, and somewhat tragic. It definitely did not disappoint.
Here’s a really cool, twisted, stop-motion (?) video: Western Spaghetti. Via

I’ve been hooked on watching Dr. Horrible (Act I and Act II.) Unfortunately, I can’t find anyone who shares my interest. Everyone I know refused to sit through more than a few seconds.
