The Coral – Invisible Invasion

The Coral’s new album, “Invisible Invasion”, is coming out May 24, so this week I’ll be posting a different track off the album every day so you can get super pumped and feel good. Even though they’re onto their fourth album, this is one of my new fav bands. I went to a Supergrass concert a couple years ago and The Coral was the opening act, but I was too busy doing other stuff and being an ass to really pay much attention, so now I feel like a bonenose. But I do remember them jammin on “Dreaming of You”, which is a must on everyone’s iPod playlist.

This 7-piece from Liverpool has got the skills. They really have a sound of their own, and the collaboration of popping keyboards, killer accoustic guitars and contrupaling pump-up choruses meshes together in virtual high five kinda way. Don’t believe me? Proof:

Click here to listen to “So Long Ago“. This song reminds me of “Octopus’s Garden”. In fact James Skelly kinda sounds like Ringo in this tune. Can you think of a cooler complement?

Video of the Week – Lyla

I figured I’d kick this thing off right with the vid for “Lyla“. This is the first single off “Don’t Believe the Truth”, the latest album from the most important band in the world (Oasis). The bruvvers from Manchester are back and kickin’ pretty hard in this tune that will familiarize everyone on the planet how damn cool this band really is. With Alan White out of the mix, the drumming in this song really has a different sound than anything they’ve done before, a lot like the Doves really. Noel Gallagher’s take on it: “the Soundtrack of our Lives doing The Who on Skol in a psychedelic city in the sky (or something!)”.

The video itself is alright. It’s got kind of a Sunday Morning Call meets Cinderella meets Alice in Wonderland feel to it. On the plus side, Liam is as effortlessly cool as always and the girl in the video looks really cool and I want to marry her.

The single comes out tommorrow, May 17, and the album follows on May 31.
