Very useful Tips Nicholas! I found another approach which is more convenient – use resizeMyBrowser to set the browser window size.

Useful and imaginative! Another approach (a bit more generic): use AutoHotkey and set up macros to resize and/or move any window with hotkeys or mouse gestures.

Yeah. My lappy’s default is 1920×1200, so I can usually have an app and a browser window each in about half of the screen. Stupid, poorly-coded websites.

I’m with you J.R. For me, there’s no reason for a website to resize your browser. That’s one of the reason I bookmark these links. If a website resizes my browser window without my permission, I just click on the 800×600 link and keep going.

I usually browse website in 800×600 even though I have a 1680×1050 desktop. Most websites (or should) fit into 800×600, and I can keep working on other applications.

As a slightly off-topic rant, man, I hate when things resize my browser without my permission. As it is, my laptop screen is of a high enough resolution that I almost never resize things.

Good question. I only tested them in FireFox and IE (the browsers that I use). JavaScipt can be finniky sometimes.

A fit to site conten would be really cool. I’ll have to think about that one. I don’t really know how to determine how big the content is.

Hmmm..how come they don’t work in Opera (v 9.0 pr 1 to be precise?).

But, hey is it possible to duplicate Opera’s “Fit to site content” feature? I find it really useful.

fyi- For these javascripts to be effective... you must make sure that in your options > web features (tab) Enable Javascript Advanced... (button) that you have Move or resize existing windows checked.

I had this unchecked for various reasons. I hate it when other sites attempt to resize my browser or if a pop up (which I have open in a new tab not a new pop up window) attempts to resize my entire browser.

But these javascripts are very useful indeed.
