More Google/VoIP Musings

Slashdot posted a thread spreading more rumors about Google and VoIP. For those of you who don’t know, VoIP is phone service over the Internet. So, it’s supposed to be incredibly cheap and costs the same to make a local call as it does an international one.

I for one would love to ditch my local teleco. Wait, I already did. I switched to one of those smaller phone companies who lease the local telco’s lines. Anyway, I’d love to make calls over the internet for free using Google. I’ll be keeping an eye on this story.

I’m looking forward for VoIP to be mainstream too. Hopefully Google can do it right.

I have talked to a couple folk who switch to Road Runner’s version and hated it, one guy even switched back to regular lines. I have talked to people who were using a broadband phone and the quality was horrible. In one instance the call dropped.

Yea, I’ve heard similar stories. Do know anyone who has used Skype? I’m not willing to give up my phone line, but I’d be willing to give VoIP a try if it were free. Maybe Google will implement this into their new IM thingy they are working on.
