The Evolution of Mario
Published in General on March 14th, 2005 8:39 pm by Nicholas Roussos
Here’s a site that shows the evolution of the Mario sprite in detail. A little too much detail, but it’s cool none the less.
I only wish the page would be updated to include the last couple of generations including Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, Mario sports games, and Paper Mario 2.

I remember playing Donkey Kong on the nintendo Game&Watch back in… 82, I believe…
I think Mario was supposed to be in that too, but it was not mentioned on the page. But the graphics there were even simpler. I think the parents still have that game somewhere, I will need to look for it next time I go home.

The more I think about it, the more incomplete I think that page was. There’s been a LOT of incarnations of Mario. I don’t think he included all of them.
Also, How can you do Mario and not include Luigi. That’s almost sacrilege. It is after all the Super Mario Bros.

Has the debate over their last name ever been settled? Is his name really Mario Mario? If their last name is not Mario then its prolly something like Googliachi or Pettatucchi.

I never knew there was a debate, I just thought Mario was a concieted mofo.
“No, Luigi, for the last time, only MY name goes in the fam business.”
