Midlake is a five-piece from Texas that I just recently discovered and really kinda like. I’m really a big fan of just about any band that has talent along with about a thousand different instruments at their disposal. Instruments which they aren’t afraid to use, sometimes even at the same time.
‘Young Bride’ is a relaxing tune sporting a Chinese violin which really gives it a lot of character, and makes me feel like I should be jumping branch by branch up a tree. To show the diversity of this band I’m also linking a really great song from their first album which has a very Beatles-esque instrumental to it.
Second album ‘The Trials of Van Occupanther’ is scheduled for a June 6 release. Single ‘Young Bride’ is out May 23.

Good find. That first song definately made me feel like I was entangled in the most intense tree top sword fight of all time, but I was completely relaxed and cool about it.
